About

I read mostly literary fiction, occasional nonfiction, some mysteries, and a few fantasy novels. I've read a book per week for over 25 years, though in the past few years I've been reading a bit less and watching more long-form television. I thought about changing the name of the blog to reflect this, but "A Book Every 10 days" sounds dumb. You can follow me on Twitter at @abookaweek, though I don't post much, especially now that this blog is on hiatus.

A lot of the content in this blog has appeared in the Books section of Isthmus, the online edition of the Madison, Wisconsin weekly alternative newspaper, Isthmus. I also write print and online features for Isthmus, and a few other websites, usually about book-related things. Here are a few examples of my articles for Isthmus and For Books' Sake:

A profile of Jordan Ellenberg, author of How Not to be Wrong.

A profile of Dale Kushner, author of The Conditions of Love.

An article about the University of Wisconsin's common reading program, Go Big Read.

A profile of Emma Straub, author of Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures.

A celebration of Margaret Drabble, on her 75th birthday.
