This was a really awful book. I don't know why I stuck with it as long as I did. I finally abandoned it in disgust about 7/8ths of the way through, and skimmed the last bit. I kept thinking that it had to get better (after all--it won all those awards!), but it never did. It's written in a flat, declarative style, with stilted, unnatural dialogue. For most of the book nothing really happens (though I guess that's part of the idea of the title). Things were starting to happen at the point where I quit, but by that time I was sick of waiting. Sick of Waiting.
